Dental implants have been around for many years and were first introduced to patients who had lack of stabilization with dentures mainly because of a large amount of bone loss.

Today dental implants are used to replace the root of either single or multiple absent teeth, and are not be visible due to the fact that they are placed and secured in the jawbone.

After healing, the implant can be used to support single dental crowns or act as a support to dental bridges or dentures.

Dental implants are extraordinary successful due to its specific and special property called osseointegration (“osseo” - bone; “integration” – fusion with), which is the biological basis of modern implants’ success.

Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device.

GINGIVITIS:

Gingivitis begins when bacteria present in mouth that becomes attached to the surface of the teeth.  The bacteria can multiply and form dental plaque; when it is left on teeth the adjacent gingival tissue becomes red and swollen and can lead to receding gums.

This clinical condition can have many causes, such as poor oral hygiene, side effects from certain medications, and smoking.  Gingivitis is an early stage of gum disease; it is treatable and can usually be reversed when appropriate measure is taken.  Prolonged untreated gingivitis can lead to a severe form of gum disease called periodontitis.

PERIODONTITIS:

Periodontitis is a severe gum disease and is usually characterized by an excess of dental plaque, inflammation of the gingiva and the space between the tooth and gum tissue becomes deeper resulting in a periodontal pocket.  Another main characteristic is the loss of supporting bone volume and bone quantity surrounding teeth roots causing teeth to become loose.

  • EARLY ORTHODONTIA (Preventative and interceptive  (Ages 6+))

Pediatric dentistry places a strong emphasis on nurturing children's dental well-being and equipping parents with essential knowledge for effective preventive care. By targeting the unique needs of young patients, this specialized field aims to instill lifelong oral hygiene habits and promote proactive dental practices from an early age.

The significance of deciduous or "baby teeth" is often underestimated. These primary teeth play an essential role beyond mere chewing. They are instrumental in fostering accurate pronunciation, fthe development of proper bite alignment, and can influence the emergence of future adult dental issues.

It is recommended that a dental visit should be programed within 6 months of the child's first erupted tooth.

Childhood is a great time for orthodontic treatment.  Your child can come to their first screening by the age of six, to evaluate their need for orthodontic treatment. When we are able to start treatment early, we can often detect and correct potential problems before they become more serious.

Early orthodontic treatment is advantageous because a young child’s teeth have not finished erupting; our specialist can guide their eruption and address any problems at the earliest possible stage.

When you bring your child to Guanacaste Dental, our Pediatric specialist and our Orthodontic specialist will be able to determine whether treatment is needed, when it should begin and if your child needs removable or fixed appliances.

Dr. Jose Franco Suchowiesky

Orthodontics is a specialized field within dentistry dedicated to identifying, preventing, and addressing dental and facial irregularities.

These issues frequently stem from teeth and jaws that are not correctly aligned, leading to problems like crowded or spaced-out teeth, overbites, underbites, and other misalignments which can lead to gum and bone disease, worn teeth, headaches and TMJ problems.

Treatment often involves the implementation of various tools such as braces, aligners, and retainers, which work to gradually shift the teeth into their proper positions.

By resolving these concerns, orthodontic care not only enhances the aesthetics of an individual's smile but also plays a crucial role in promoting improved oral health and facilitates an easier maintenance of proper dental hygiene.
